Change Management in a nuthsell is a key function within the orgnaisation whereby steps are taken to effectively and efficiently deal with the alterations, modifications, transformations that are taking place in the micro and macro environment. For instance a Technological change like establishment of a new computer network or Software system with in an organisation is a major change affecting everyone, Now both the Orgnisation and individuals have to decide how they approach it, Organisation has to decide how to make the best out of the new changes whereas the individuals must see how the new system benefits them and how they can safely absorb the change.

Change Management - Where to Start

It always a confusing task on understand how to start the change process, the question has different asnwers to it, but one that is most effective in providing positive results is through creating a consensus and direct involvement of the stakeholders, for example in case of a technological change best bet would be involve people direcly utilising the IT resources and the top management, above holds true for smaller organisations, where change agents could easily communicate and gather the key personnel. Arguably in larger organisations a more Pyramid like Structure of effective change management could be utilised. Just like dropping water at the top Glass in a Pyramid of Glasses fills every glass, gainaing support for change in the Larger Organisation could be done the similar way.

The key is to make the people understand the need for change, if the Leader understands the NEED for change, the top management would act as a stimulus for making the change happen in the organisation. The confidence of the Top management has to flow down to the middle and then to the operational level, friction to change could then be tackled at more pace and easier manner as the managers would know what value change could bring.

Change Management - Activities During the Process of Change

While the Organisation is undergoing change, the change agents shall keep the stakeholder abreast with the activities and how they affect them, in this way they could gather further support, make the change initiative more smooth, give them proper feedback as the change activities take shape, and absorbing the change is more easier. It always a good idea to monitor the activities and discuss it with the stakeholder to make sure things are going according to the plan, and if they could be modified for better.

Change Management - End of Change

Once the desired Changes have been made within the organisation, its neccessary to brief the orgnisation on

  1. What Happened
  2. Why it Happened
  3. How it Happened
  4. What to Expect
  5. What Not to Expect

Limitations

Plus the Organisation should devise a way for feedback and making it fruitful.
